My carpentry ascent was a culmination of two realisations:-  I've always been good with my hands and making things, and I really love wood.  My friends would always ask for help with projects at home and in more professional environments, but it wasn't until a stranger asked me how long I had been doing carpentry that I realised I didn't actually know anything about it, and that maybe because I enjoyed it so much, I should at least learn how to use a chisel.

I came to college from school to begin my career in furniture making. I enjoy the designing and making aspect of this hands on profession and I hope to have my own business.

Carl Lars
After studying Product Design and floundering about in numerous jobs, I decided that I wanted to hone my skills towards designing and making furniture. I'm interested in Scandinavian style and the beauty and functionality it embodies and hope my woody creations reflect this!

Jay Read
I spent a very enjoyable decade running entertainment venues and getting people drunk, but was seeking a new challenge and a different way to live my life. Retraining to become a bespoke furniture designer/maker seemd like the most amazing opportunity. I have all my evenings free and every day I work towards creating beautiful (hopefully) furniture. Plus I get to hang out with this bunch of awesome poeple. Life is living, and living is good!

Jonathan Cairns
After more than two decades in homelessness and adult social care working with head and heart it's time to square that circle with a pair of hands.  Especially keen on Arts and Crafts and Japanese aesthetics and simplicity of form, figure and function.

I am a repentant academic who left the ivory towers to follow a career in furniture making. I love the combination of practical and intellectual challenges on the course, and am very excited about making more of my own designs this year.

Daniel Humphreys
From being a carpenter since I left school, working with wood is in my blood. The challenge to refine my skills and explore the furniture making industry in the Crafts College will be I feel one of the best periods in my life.
